“Collaborate with others that will benefit your situation and want to see you as successful as you feel you can be and feel for them as well.”
Check out the interview with Wavie P. exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Wavie P.: “Wavie” is an acronym for “Was A Valuable Influence Everywhere” with the “P.” representing my last birth initial. While in Michigan in 2008 I started making my talents known publicly by going to any studio whenever possible.
From that point I had started my own musical imprint ADDAM Entourage, LLC and teamed up with a good friend/ business partner to create the Lansing, MI-based Pro Wrestling entity I.R.O.G. (Int’l Ring of Grapplers).
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
I’ve used social media, word of mouth, promo cards, and performing whenever the opportunity presented itself. Nothing speaks for itself than having quality music along with being personable when it comes time to interact with potential fans!
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
World renowned songwriter/performer with hip hop as the foundation. Create a great catalogue of music that lasts a lifetime and creates avenues for artists to express themselves and find their own success.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Breaking through a saturated market and gaining exposure in a city’s soundscape that doesn’t resonate with the music you make.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
Washington, DC and Lansing, MI have their own respective feels. DC is originally known as a Go-Go city with a slight history in r&b. While in Lansing it’s a whole different scene entirely. Being an offshoot of Detroit, Lansing definitely adopted its qualities.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Never give up on your dreams especially if you’re passionate about what you’re doing. Collaborate with others that will benefit your situation and want to see you as successful as you feel you can be and feel for them as well.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
Making the Spotify Discover Weekly Playlist a week or so after my newest album Rogue Wave was released (April 2016) and having a feature article in Rude Boy Asia, an online magazine.
What is your inspiration?
Life and the various encounters I come across!
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
Those with a passion for the music and success do just fine. Having a keen awareness of what’s going on within the business will help any do fine. For every niche, there’s a market for it!
