“Definitely just focus on yourself. It’s real easy to get distracted by negativity. It’s everywhere, but nowhere to be found if you don’t think about it.”
Check out the interview with Twiggy exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Twiggy: It all started when I was about 18 or 19. I started sending voice recordings of myself rapping over instrumentals to some of my friends; it was horrible quality but it got the idea across that I could rap. Nobody really paid much attention to it except a certain few who urged me to hop on a legit mic. So I did and at the time I was living up in North Jersey with 4 other dudes who were real into music. We decided to invest in a mic and other equipment to get this thing going.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Definitely just focus on yourself. It’s real easy to get distracted by negativity. It’s everywhere, but nowhere to be found if you don’t think about it.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Getting out of my bed is the only real challenge I face daily.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
I like to take my music and shove it deep down people’s throats until they can chew it and spit out what they really think of it; if they like it they’ll give their friends a taste.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
I live in a pretty small town called Runnemede in New Jersey, not much to it but it’s where I’ve stayed the majority of my life. There are a couple artists around the area, but I stick to myself.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
On the complete other side of this country somewhere in California sipping on a mojito.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
Gotta be Kendrick Lamar, that man is a true lyrical genius. I look up to the best version of myself becasue that’s the only person I could truly be.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
That’s real general, but yeah there’s always gonna be good new music out – you just gotta find it.
Thanks. Where can we contact you and find you online?
