“Dan and I hold each other accountable to every word in our lyrics.”
Check out the interview with TLD exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
TLD: In 2009 Dan Wallace was a solo artist on a Christian hip hop label called Walk by Faith Music. I Nova Miller was a member in a group on the label called Not by Sight. When Walk by Faith Music discontinued Dan and I thought it to be a good idea to continue the legacy, so in 2012 we created our own new music label and production company called The Lion’s Den Pro.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
We thrive to involve our fans in everything we do. Without the support of the community, indie Christian hip hop artists as ourselves would be at a standstill. So we go out into the community with CDs, t-shirts, flyers, etc. to not only sell products but to speak to the needs of the community and pray for God’s children.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
We feel like the greatest challenge in the music industry is to not compromise our morals as a means of gaining success. It’s so tempting to rap about what everyone else raps about and cater to the larger demographic. Dan and I hold each other accountable to every word in our lyrics. Plus we not only have to speak it, we must live it.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
We say to all upcoming artist to always know what you’re in it for. Motive is everything. We know what we’re in it for, so we’re never striving for someone else’s version of what our dream should look like. Also, if your motive and God’s motive are different you might want to rethink your motive.
What inspires you to write your next song?
We are heavily inspired by the man upstairs, but also our lives we’re drastically changed from a dead end road to eternity in heaven. We have to let the world know how we received such a gift. How selfish would it be to keep something so amazing to ourselves, so I guess it’s fair to say that the wellbeing of others inspire us more than anything else.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
Pray, write, record, and give God all the glory for the outcome. Short version.
Where can we connect with you? Can you give us your social media links and where we can contact you?
