“I was offered to do a showcase with Coast 2 Coast and thought, ‘why not. I fell in love then.”
Check out the interview with Thoro Nature exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Thoro Nature: Well, initially this music thing started out as a hobby for me, I just needed a form of release from the everyday experiences of life – good or bad. I was offered to do a showcase with Coast 2 Coast and thought, “why not.” I fell in love then.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
One way I create music is simply focusing on a situation or a feeling, whatever melody evolves from that feeling I take it from there. Or there might be those times where I’m in the car feeling myself heavy, the right beat comes on and I get to freestyling over whoever the artist is. I’ll be feeling like, “dude ain’t saying much on this hard beat, let me get it.”
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
Lenny S from RocNation gave me great advice which has prepared me in a few ways for all the unauthentic execs. I counter that by constantly educating myself and keeping updated on the business.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene in my city is dope, finally StarCity717 is receiving the attention it should’ve been gotten. It’s only the beginning. There are a lot of diverse artists here in PA. We are the city with the most versatility. Only thing I don’t like is that they consider us a small town, but everyone from every hood, city, or state has ran through here at least once.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
There’s no denying the power of internet and social media in music; downloading and now podcasts are becoming more relevant every day. As an independent artist you want to be in tune with as much of the digital process as possible. I feel every city or town should have internet radio shows, whether they be live or not.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
As an upcoming artist myself I can definitely say #1 you have to remain hungry and humble through the beginning and all the way to the stardom. Two, you need to learn the business if you wanna have longevity and get paid. My music is spinning because I’m dope and I did my research.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Actually, this interview with Skilly inspired my next song. I’ll put this interview into song form combined with some previous ones I did.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
First step to my songs is completing a thought, then I need the proper beat to fit the emotion of the thought; my lyrics are limitless. This is how songs like “What Chu Hustle Bout” are birthed. Soulful, feel me?
What do you think makes a great song?
To me a great song is being able to touch a certain emotion like 2Pac, tell a great story like Biggie, be lyrically gifted like Nas, inspirational as Jay-Z, and to be able to turn up any thought like Future. A great song is one that you’ll think of for years to come. Great songs is all I inspire to write.
