“The hardest thing in the music business is sometimes not getting the attention I want and that sometimes you can’t please everyone with the music you produce.”
Check out the interview with Sheerr Cold exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Sheerr Cold: It all started when I was just a kid. My father Jesse James (Island Boy Productions) would book shows and concerts, and was affiliated with Mystikal back in the days. My father had all the connections with different artists and introduced me to them. At that point I realized I wanted to get into the music business and be an entertainer.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Viral blasts on social media is the best way. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and Vine are good social media sites to get great exposure and to get my name circulating around in the media. Another good way is to get in contact with professional promoters who can help me out with promotion.
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
I ultimately want to become a very powerful and influential musician. Rapping, singing, acting, and a business man. It’s been my dream to become a music artist. My main focus is the music industry and has been my primary concern since I was a little boy.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
The hardest thing in the music business is sometimes not getting the attention I want and that sometimes you can’t please everyone with the music you produce. This is why I want to somewhat master most music genres to get as much followers as possible.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
I’m originally from Miami, Florida. The music scene in is very wild. For the most part I enjoy Miami for its beaches, clubs, the fun, and endless activities. Life here in Miami for the most part is actually exciting and I’m enjoying it. It’s best not to live below the influence like the others.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Being open minded to new opportunities and stepping out of your comfort zone. Knowing how and where to invest your time and work. You cannot do everything or make it on your own. Receive and appreciate any type of help you can get in today’s time. Take time and pride in your work or project you’re working on.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
Uploading my first video on YouTube and reaching over fifty thousand views, being interviewed by Skilly Magazine, and uploading my video on ZEVO TV.
What is your inspiration?
My inspiration is learning new things, the urge to succeed and grow. People who are self-sufficient financially also inspire me to push forward, to be a leader, and to stand my own ground. People like Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Shawn Roberts (Albert Wesker), Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Jay Z are people who I consider to be my inspiration.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
I feel if the person is passionate about being a musician, and has talent or work towards in building up their talent, then yes that person or individual would most likely be successful in the world of music.
