“The Chi has always been big with music, it’s hard to make it here sometimes because the fans can’t be fooled. They want the real you, if you’re fake it will show because my city will test you.”
Check out the interview with Rob C Shadowlife exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Rob C Shadowlife: Music has always been a part of me, hip hop was my voice growing up in Cabrini Green Housing project and in Chicago. I always rhymed and I started doing shows in 2011 to get me back in the game.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
To stay focused and always leave yourself room to grow.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Getting the right shows and making sure I release good music, not just something for people to hear.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
Social media of course, but communication with your fans is just as important. Let them know your music is their music and they’ll help you promote it.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
The Chi has always been big with music, it’s hard to make it here sometimes because the fans can’t be fooled. They want the real you, if you’re fake it will show because my city will test you.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
Doing bigger shows making bigger moves. I got a lot going on entertainment wise.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
I look up to hip hop music as a whole, the spirit of the music is so powerful. There are many rappers that inspired me growing up like LL Cool J, Run DMC, Ice Cube, Common, Jay Z, and today’s artist like J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Chance the Rapper.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
Most music today can be better, it’s not all bad but artists need to be artists not just puppets.
Where can we contact you and find you online?
I’m everywhere: iTunes, Tidal, Spotify, Amazon Music, CDbaby, IHeart Radio, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
