“Starting from the bottom is never easy. The greatest challenge is building the buzz and getting people to support your movement. Its gonna be a lot of challenges in the future and I’m prepared to face them all. It’s nothing I can’t handle…”
Check out the interview with La’Major exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
La’Major: I got started through my homie James. He gave me a shot and put me on a track for his mixtape. Since then I been all in. I’ve been getting a lot of good responses on the music I put out. It all started when I was recovering from a knee injury that stopped me from hooping in college.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I just pretty much use my social media accounts and I just started passing out CDs. I think I’m still thinking of ways to be a bit more creative.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
Starting from the bottom is never easy. The greatest challenge is building the buzz and getting people to support your movement. Its gonna be a lot of challenges in the future and I’m prepared to face them all. It’s nothing I can’t handle.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene in my city is still developing Petersburg, Va is a small city. But what I like about it is we have a lot of talented artists that are in different lanes. What I dislike is its no unity forreal, Everybody be doing they own thing. I’m part of the problem too, but it is what it is. We could do something big if everybody come together. Hopefully somebody make it out and open the door for everybody else.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
Music change so much so often Idk where it’s gonna be. It’s all about what the people like at the time. only way artists can be a part of it is if the people like they music.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Just stay dedicated if this what you wanna do. Get you a strong team. Don’t let nobody get in your way, if they not with you 100% cut em off. Straight up. Everybody around you gotta be on the same page. And stay true to yourself. People respect you more.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Whatever is going on at the moment. All my music is based on what’s going on in my life at that time.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I listen to the beat numerous times and start putting some thoughts together. Get the flow I wanna use on the beat, then I start writing down lyrics.
What do you think makes a great song?
A great song must have a great book. That’s the most important part of the song now. If you can get em with a catchy hook and then keep them listening long enough to hear your verses, and your verses are good then you have a great song.
