“Don’t give up. If this is your dream and you’re serious about this then you never forget that nor abandon it.”
Check out the interview with Osce/Cwhit exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Osce/Cwhit: I was able to start my journey by just deciding this is a dream that I want to make my reality. It all started at my grandmother’s apartment. As a kid I had only my mother and grandmother who were always forcing me to go to church and participate. So after church was done my grandmother would allow us to show her what we had learned and how we would do it and I’ve been learning how to become what I am ever since.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
Sharing and ambush marketing tactics. The thing I saw as being relevant or current I used it as a target to share my work. Word of mouth also helped along with just being a people person, not a persona so to speak.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
Lack of respect for the art of music is in my opinion the biggest challenge. By producing works that will influence better work from others along with myself.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
My hometown is spewing with talent. It’s just a matter of them receiving the right exposure and marketing to reach the mainstream audience. I like the ambience of just being home. I don’t like the poverty and the lack of leadership and resources allotted to the citizens who really make the town function.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
The future of music will be fine once we get back to making music and not followers. I can be more of a part of this by staying true to the respect I have for my art of expression because I feel that truth will always lead to excellence.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Don’t give up. If this is your dream and you’re serious about this then you never forget that nor abandon it.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Life and its randomness.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I find a vision worth expression that compliments the aura that the sounds project and I go with it.
What do you think makes a great song?
Sincerity, genuinely, creativity.
Where can we connect with you? Can you give us your social media links and where we can contact you?
