“I see myself on television doing music whether it’s my music videos being played on big music networks or me doing interviews or live performances. I see myself at a higher level than where I am now and continuing to rise and climbing the ladder.”

Check out the interview with Lorenzo Torez exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Lorenzo Torez: I started singing at the age of about 10 in church and then school choirs. I always knew I wanted to do this. I started writing and recording my own songs at like 18/19 years old and wasn’t being heard. Then the internet became huge. That’s when I put out more new music and it started being well received. Now my music and brand is reaching higher levels.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Never stop, never give up, do what’s your passion, and do what you love. Don’t be a follower, be a leader. It takes hard work, patience, discipline, sacrifice, and dedication.

What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Honestly, knowing what to do next to keep myself as an artist going and relevant and to stand out and get to the next level in my career. You have to constantly keep fans and people into your music no matter what.

We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
The internet. It’s your savior, it’s your best friend. It’s the best way to market yourself as an artist. It’s so important and I can’t stress that enough. It’s the most powerful tool you have as an artist. Use it nonstop every way you can.

Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
I’m from Cleveland, OH. There’s a lot of talent here and great quality studios for recording; however, the opportunity here is not good. It’s rap/hip hop dominated which I love, don’t get me wrong, but it’s hard for a singer to push and strive in my city.

Where do you see yourself a year from today?
I see myself on television doing music whether it’s my music videos being played on big music networks or me doing interviews or live performances. I see myself at a higher level than where I am now and continuing to rise and climbing the ladder.

Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
Growing up was Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, Usher, Brandy, Notorious B.I.G, Jay Z, R.Kelly, Tupac, Mary J. Blige, and TLC. Today it’s Chris Brown, Kanye West, Neyo, Drake, Nick Jonas, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Adele, Alicia Keys, J. Cole, and August Alsina.

How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
I like it, I really do. I still download and purchase new music. I just actually purchased and I’m still listening to K. Michelle’s new record; she’s dope and her music is good and real. There’s still really good music coming out today and still a lot of talent.
