“Motivation is hard as well, it has to be like a cup of endless water flowing constantly.”
Check out the interview with JO JAX exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
JO JAX: My love for music actually started during my childhood. My mom had me in church all the time. Seeing how much I enjoyed listening to the music in church, the pastor at the time handed me a set of drumsticks and before you knew it I was playing the drums on behalf of the church. I came out to Los Angeles years ago and started school as an audio engineer to benefit my music career. I worked with many famous artists while learning the craft of my music.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Be passionate and consistent about the music you are creating, as well make music that you will enjoy. Find beats that match who you are and what you will sound good on. Work hard, never give up, and practice makes perfect.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Time is one of the hardest challenges an artist struggles with because there is never enough of it. Another hard challenge is being able to surround yourself with people that are just as positive and passionate as I am with music. Motivation is hard as well, it has to be like a cup of endless water flowing constantly.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
The best way to promote and advertise my music is through social media, friends, family, and word of mouth.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
I feel like the world is my city. I have so many fans everywhere that support my music that I put out. That is why I feel like my music is different because I have fans from around the world that can feel where I’m coming from and relate to my music. Without my fans supporting me, there would be no Jo Jax.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
Doing something bigger and better with this music. Hopefully much further in my music career by being a household name.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
My biggest inspiration is God, the creator of everything in this world. Waking up every day, that’s a inspiration to me. It can be big things or small things. Whether things are going well or not with me, just being on this Earth inspires me. There is only one thing I look up to and that’s God as well as the people that he puts in my life which are my fans and family.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
The music coming out today needs me in this game right now. Now is the time for the voice of Jo Jax to be heard and listened to.
