“Probably the hardest thing I have encountered trying to make it in the entertainment business is finding the funding to properly showcase my passion. You have to create your own opportunities and continue to make something from nothing. I love what I do though, I work hard to overcome all challenges thrown my way.”

Check out the interview with J.M.E. exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
J.M.E.: I was born and raised in Denver, CO and made “Parkhill” my stomping grounds. I formed a record label with a relative called Twissted Records and from 2000 to 2006 I wrote 6 projects and 10 mixtapes, along with numerous albums, shows, and collaborations. I made my move to the south in 2007 to pursue my own music career and started my own label called Got Heat Ent. in 2008.

That’s when I met my music partner Tasco. Together we formed a group and called ourselves Dizobedinet. 2015 was a very eventful year for us as we released seven total singles under GHE. We have plenty of projects lined up to release including a mixtape and more solo projects. Life has thrown many obstacles my way, but I’ve never stopped chasing my dreams.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
I would tell them to always be themselves, don’t change for anyone. You have to remain true to yourself. Always believe in yourself and believe in what you do. You have to stay determined, focused, and hungry if you want to succeed in anything that you decided to pursue.

What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Probably the hardest thing I have encountered trying to make it in the entertainment business is finding the funding to properly showcase my passion. You have to create your own opportunities and continue to make something from nothing. I love what I do though, I work hard to overcome all challenges thrown my way.

We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
I believe the internet is the best way to help promote and advertise your music. Many social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter help connect with your fans as well. There are so many platforms out there that help boost your music to people around the world.

Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
Denver is an untapped market. When I lived there, Colorado didn’t really support local artist. In recent years I’ve started to receive lots of support from the city of Denver. When I made my move to the South I continued to receive love from fans. I have never stopped supporting where I’ve come from. Denver will always be with me.

Where do you see yourself a year from today?
God willing, on top of the world while I continue to make a name for myself and my brand. Get ready for the GHE takeover.

Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
There was a short time period before I created Got Heat Ent. that I did endure some personal matters and questioned whether I should continue chasing my dreams. That’s when I met Brooklynn. She has always believed in me and gave me the motivation to never stop working at making my dreams a reality. Tasco also plays a big part in motivating me to keep making music.

How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
There are quite a few artists that I like out there, but I do believe some music out there lacks the lyrical content that hip hop music once had. That’s why I strive to have a meaning and make different music then what’s out there.
