“I feel the future of music is headed in a great direction. It’s evolving and newer sounds are being used.”
Check out the interview with Elijah Sufi exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Elijah Sufi: I started at an early age. I always knew within myself I would be somebody special in this world. I grew up listening to R Kelly, Usher, Joe, Michael Jackson, and more. Those artists shaped me to have great passion for music.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I interact with my fans. My fans are everything to me. Having great communication with my fans helps. It helps my fans keep themselves up to date with me and I stay up to date with whatever is going on in world.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
As an upcoming unsigned artist the only challenge I face is promotions for my music. I tried to stay as close as I can with my fans, but I hope to enlarge my fan base even more as time goes on.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene in Minnesota is fair. Certain artists get recognized and many artists that are truly talented don’t get recognized. I would like to see more artists stay involved within one another and the communities as well.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I feel the future of music is headed in a great direction. It’s evolving and newer sounds are being used. As far as artists, the best thing for an artist to do is to stay involved within the world and their local communities. That way they know what’s going on in the world and they can relate.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Keep working hard, be smart, and stay focused. It’s really easy to lose focus, but as long as you know for yourself the ultimate goal anything can happen.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Events that happen within my life and also what I see going around. As a songwriter I get many ideas from different events. Whether I went through them or I had seen them, I put that into my songs and tell a story.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
Going through events in life and talking about it. Writing a song is the same thing as writing a story. However, there are times where you may not have gone through the event but it inspires you to write upon it.
What do you think makes a great song?
Tell a compelling story, whether it may be personal or not but telling a story.
