“The biggest challenge I face in today’s entertainment business is outdoing myself.”
Check out the interview with Darneezy LD exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Darneezy LD: I was able to start my journey in the entertainment business by investing in my own equipment/studio and taking basic steps to getting myself seen and my music heard. It was then that I began receiving emails and calls for shows. I’ve only had my own studio for a few months. I always wanted to do music and getting a studio was a goal of mine for years. So in a sense, it all started with a desire to entertain and make music.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I promote my music by giving out my old CD/mixtapes to anyone who would take’em and I feel might listen to ’em for free. I put out music on sites where one can download the songs for free. I create my own beats now, so I post what I’m working on and tag people in the posts.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The biggest challenge I face in today’s entertainment business is outdoing myself. I’m creating my own beats and doing everything I do from scratch to finish. So in order to comfortably entertain I feel like I have to keep improving, that’s the greatest challenge to me. In order to overcome any challenges, I always train myself mentally, physically, etc.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene in my hometown, well … I don’t feed into it too much. I have no real comment.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I’m not sure where the future of music is going to be, I do feel work ethic and intention will get artists in places they would like to be in.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Go to work. Set goals and attack ’em. See the end from the begging. No matter what distractions or challenges arrive, control the outcome. See the habits in the character you want become and make them your habits.
What inspires you to write your next song?
My life. The pain I haven’t dealt with and other feelings/emotions, thoughts, and ideas I want to express. It brings stories up inside of me.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
Rhythm and rhymes. Get the rhythm, write the right rhymes. Stick to whatever topic you start with.
What do you think makes a great song?
I feel a song’s great when the vocals are good, rhythm is solid, and character is felt and related to. When one can grow because of it. I feel there are other things that make songs great like the uniqueness, whatever makes it different.
