“When you really get out there and hit the road, it’s honestly a different feel being face to face …”
Check out the interview with Da Hooliganz exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Da Hooliganz: In the cities of Valdosta (Luckie Luciano) and Toccoa, GA (Blame Chef). The journey has been long and trying but great building relationships city to city. Interesting learning the ins and outs of the industry
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Be your own person, follow your heart, and never let anyone tell you your ideas aren’t good enough; also never settle.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Bringing a different sound to a monotone rap game. If you listen to all the greats none sound like each other.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
Social media is cool, but we feel the best way is going place to place. The Internet is a great tool, but it makes people lazy. When you really get out there and hit the road, it’s honestly a different feel being face to face; plus you get to connect with the people.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
There’s a lot of talent in each city and we are trying to open the lines for the forgotten country folk outside of Atlanta and the fans are Hooliganz at heart.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
Established and well respected as musicians and songwriters.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
The Outkasts, The Goodie Mobs, the Snoops, the Master Ps; the people who did great business and made great music. Honestly, there’s a lot to name.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
Is this a trick question? It’s cool for what it’s worth, but it’s stagnant. You’re not getting any classic records anymore. We’re looking to change that.
