“I think it’s being heard and people not listening. I’m going to keep striving for what I want. My biggest fear is being unsuccessful.”
Check out the interview with Curt Corona exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Curt Corona: It all started in my uncle’s room listening to a mixtape of Lauryn Hill and Tupac. I got lost and knew what I wanted to do. I started in the Houston, Texas underground rap scene.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I’m active on social media. I have multiple places where my music can be found and I pass out USB drives instead of CDs because it’s different. I’ve been in a couple magazine spreads too like Rude Boy Asia and FYI Houston.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
I think it’s being heard and people not listening. I’m going to keep striving for what I want. My biggest fear is being unsuccessful.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
It’s changing. I like that it’s creative, but I can’t not like it. I’m a part of it.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I can’t say music changes every couple of years. I feel like a pioneer. I’m finding my own way and learning for myself.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
You got to know what you want and do what you have to get it. Stay focused and humble.
What inspires you to write your next song?
My everyday way of living and how I want to change the world. I speak my plans over beats.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I get above the influence (420) and let the beat drive in my mind.
What do you think makes a great song?
A beat, it relates to others, and has word play and delivery.
