“I see my upcoming project 90250 – The Mixtape going viral and nobody speaking about Hawthorne or Los Angeles without mentioning CAVICALIFORNIA.”
Check out the interview with CAVICALIFORNIA exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
CAVICALIFORNIA: I’ve been out here doing shows before I ever had I record out. I’ve been fortunate to have people mentor me, book me, and most of all support me on my journey before I ever had a record for download on the internet. Somewhere around 2012 is when I met PRNSLYATOMS and together we founded The L.A.M.E. (Los Angeles Made Exclusive). 2 years later we’re dropping professional records, filming our own videos, and looking for new additions to the collective. I was even fortunate enough to have Kagney Linn Karter produce a track on my first album L.A. Waters.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Stop waiting in line to buy Jordans. Ya’ll look stupid ass f***.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
The hardest part is balancing everything out: networking, managing both the group and myself, sending out emails, booking shows, showing support, spamming, budgeting, making new music, and still finding time to do all the shit the normal people do.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
Meeting the right people first and foremost, and promoting in your city till everybody in your 10 block radius knows your name. You can buy followers online, but those followers aren’t real and have no significant purpose unless you already have a following behind you. Their sole purpose is to make you look more official thus attracting more online followers. Most of my growth has been fairly organic. I’ve found Facebook to be fairly effective for promoting my music.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
What can I say about Hawthorne? Hawthornians are some of the biggest player haters on the planet. Everybody’s trying to rap, but they all suck. Despite all the bullshit I’m still putting on for the city.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
I see my upcoming project 90250 – The Mixtape going viral and nobody speaking about Hawthorne or Los Angeles without mentioning CAVICALIFORNIA.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
Life is my biggest inspiration. The day I stop living is the day I stop having shit to say.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
I think most of the music is garbage. I tend to listen to myself. Shout outs to the west coast.
