“With the emergence of social media and the impact of the internet, there’s a lot more competition to contend with to break out than in years past. You have to really strategize and come up with clever ways to bring attention to your work.”
Check out the interview with Admiral exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Admiral: When I started music was just a hobby. I grew up heavily involved in sports. I have always been a fan of the culture, just didn’t take it serious early on. Over time I realized that music was my true passion and I made the decision to fully pursue it as career.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I use many different ways to promote music ranging from social media campaigns and marketing to hosting my own events, radio, and blogsite promotions. You name it.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The biggest challenges I face today is the over saturation of the market. With the emergence of social media and the impact of the internet, there’s a lot more competition to contend with to break out than in years past. You have to really strategize and come up with clever ways to bring attention to your work.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
I have mixed feelings about music in my hometown; being from the home of hip hop it’s very competitive – it isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I believe the future of music will be controlled more by the artists. Artists are becoming more informed by the day and empowering themselves to break through the barriers of the business.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Learn the business and invest in themselves. If you truly believe in yourselves don’t fear betting on yourself. There are resources that can get you to your goals.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Experience is my biggest motivation when it comes to my writing. I reflect on personal experiences and what the people experience around me.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
My process is simple. First step is always finding the concept. I try and visualize the song before I start writing. I then look for the type of production I need for the concept of the song. I don’t make empty music so my process takes a little longer than most.
What do you think makes a great song?
Authenticity, a great concept, strong production, songwriting, and delivery are the makings of a great song. Something the people can connect to their own lives is my formula.
