“Another thing about the future of music is that musicians now have to be business-wise too as well as artistic.”
Check out the interview with Young Thunder exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Young Thunder: I started off doing local talent shows and showcases and that’s when I decided to take music more seriously.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I keep people updated through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, and my own website. Sending my work by email is also a great way to keep in touch.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
With all the music that’s out today, it’s really hard to get noticed. The best way to overcome this is to stay consistent with your material, try to stand out and work hard to stay relevant.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
At this moment there’s a lot of talented artists trying to work together to make some progress happen to Fort Wayne, Indiana known. The only thing it lacks right now is resources to make the music scene flourish.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I think history will repeat itself; it has no option but to because it seems like everything has already been done so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to revisit some of the music from the past and introduce them to the newer generations. Another thing about the future of music is that musicians now have to be business-wise too as well as artistic.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Even if you might get rejected from certain opportunities, don’t be scared to try again. Stay focused on your goals and don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t achieve because anything is possible. Your success is based off how hard you work to achieve it and how much you are willing to push yourself to get it.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Real life experiences as well as the different environments that I am placed in. It’s like a painter when he visualizes a scene and gives him inspiration to make his art. Being in certain environments or looking through someone else’s point of view gives me the motivation I need to make my music.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
It’s simple. I get the instrumental and then visualize where I want to take the song, then I write it.
What do you think makes a great song?
The feeling you put into it is just as important as the instrumental you use for the song. If you are able to make people feel your music and put them in the mood you want, then that’s what makes a great song.
