“Just grind! If you aren’t street, don’t talk bout street shit because the real will show! If you talk about what you know, it just flows a lot easier!”

Check out the interview with Walk Light exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

SKILLY: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Walk Light: I all actually started from me listening to music like Lil Wayne and Future really. From there I created my own lane of music. I have been through so much shit, that it was just my way to get things off my chest.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I use Instagram a lot right now. I’m pretty known where I’m from, and my brothers are also. So, it’s pretty easy for me to use those people with tons of followers to shout me out, and it’s not bullshit so that helps haha!

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
My greatest challenge is being heard. All that fugazy rapping isn’t in me. I talk bout what I know or what I’ve been through, and the real will always shine no matter what the lane is. I just need to keep making myself seen. Once I’m seen and heard it’s nothing haha.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
In my hometown of Lauderdale, people live for music, so really if my hometown fucks with me then I’ve got some gas! I can’t dislike my city when it comes to music. They will tell you if you’re ass or not!

What are the steps you take to make a song?
I listen to a beat first, then if I like it, I go in. The beat determines the first thing I say. The first thing I say then determines the rest of the song. I re-perform it a few times and edit some things, then once I feel like it’s done, it’s done haha!

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I mean music is a part of everyday life. It’s everywhere! I mean if an artist is serious about his shit, he should hop in the game, if not, don’t fuck the game up haha! Try to get a good job or something haha!

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Just grind! If you aren’t street, don’t talk bout street shit because the real will show! If you talk about what you know, it just flows a lot easier!

What inspires you to write your next song?
What I’ve been through inspires me. Hunger inspires me. What I see inspires me. Anything I go through in everyday life can inspire me, you know? My dog can say something, and I can use that little sentence at times.
