“Close your eyes. Envision your career and how you’d like it to flow.”
Check out the interview with Virginia Legend Squad exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Virginia Legend Squad: Virginia Legend Squad was started like all of the greats, in a garage. My brother Aspect Unsigned and I linked up after a 3 year hiatus and started where we left off at age 13. It was right after our homie Brill OG passed away. We realized how short life was and decided we needed to unite the artist in our area since the local music scene is disconnected.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
We love doing shows. We are also building our own promo company named Yin Yang Inc. in which we do photography, videography, sound engineering, and parties/shows for the low.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
Ego. Remain humble.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
Virginia is full of hustlers and entrepreneurs. We are one of the most talented and versatile hip hop areas nationally bringing sounds from both northern and southern influences. However, most artists around aren’t utilizing the art of collaboration.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
As far as marketing, the game is definitely more digital nowadays. As far as sound, the creativity has been more about “feeling” and production, rather than lyrics and flow. VLS likes to blend both lyrics/bars and “feeling”(ad-libs etc.) to add flow with versatility and balance.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Close your eyes. Envision your career and how you’d like it to flow. Write this vision down on paper. Recite this every day until it becomes reality.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Given this talent we say music is one of the most creative and effective ways to express. With that being said, anything can inspire us to write. We often see our songs as gifts from the universe.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
First it starts with collaborating with our producer to make sure he can put what is in our minds onto the DAW software. Then it’s all about freestyling different flows and concepts until we find that unique style. After that it’s just coming up with the right story and then it’s a hit.
What do you think makes a great song?
A great song to us puts you in the mindset and feeling of the artist. It can make you feel any type of emotion to either help you get through something or bring you in a better place when listening to it.
Where can we connect with you? Can you give us your social media links and where we can contact you?
