“There’s going to be shit talkers, doubters, and haters. Your closest friends will become your worst enemies, but you just have to keep pushing and working harder. And smoke hella amounts of weed to stay relaxed.”

Check out the interview with Tw20ty Below exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Tw20ty Below:
I started writing when I was 14, mostly making fun of my teachers and classmates. Then by 16 I was taking the Weird Al route and I was writing comical versions to rap songs. I started recording when I was about 18 and 3 years later I’ve combined writing comical and rap lyrics together.

What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Social media is the obvious one. All the music websites you can think of. Just getting your name out there is the most important. And of course word of mouth. Tell your friends family and whoever supports you to tell as many people as they can about your music. Smile a lot.

What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
I want to become the white Will Smith. All that thug life gangster shit is for the birds. People want to laugh and feel good.

What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Everyone and their mother is in the music business. It’s hard to stand out, you just got to find that niche that will draw people’s attention to you.

What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
I didn’t grow up in the slums of some ghetto or the mansions in Beverly Hills, just a normal little city. The music scenes anywhere from death metal to gangsta rap to country and Frank Sinatra. Everyone complains about how it’s boring living here, but I like it.

What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
There’s going to be shit talkers, doubters, and haters. Your closest friends will become your worst enemies, but you just have to keep pushing and working harder. And smoke hella amounts of weed to stay relaxed.

What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
I became friends with Strange Music artists CES Cru and JL B. Hood and they did me a solid and jumped on my album for me.

What is your inspiration?
Almost anything. Weed and women to porn and masturbation. The weirder the better.

Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
It depends on what you think success is. To some it’s the money, to that I say it depends on how talented you are. To others it’s the fame and in that case yes.
