“Stay focused, grind hard, be creative, and have your business right; without all that you will get nowhere.”
Check out the interview with Tragman exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Tragman: My career began in Charleston, SC. I was introduced to a lot of old school music and got introduced to rap by my cousin. I then started penning my own rhymes by 14 and have been making music ever since. I started Music Hype Ent two years ago.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Online, hand to hand, commercials, radio, and anything you can get your face or brand on.
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
A mogul, a buisness man, and a legendary artist.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
The grind and just understanding the paperwork for the average artist.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
There’s a lot of crabs in Charleston. The music scene is very competitive, but at the same time we are starting to unify and really push together which is starting to change things for the better. The challenge of living in Charleston is the fact that nobody made it on a national level yet.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Stay focused, grind hard, be creative, and have your business right; without all that you will get nowhere.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
Best thing to happen to me was being able to open up for Turk and Juvenile from the Hot Boys, Pastor Troy, and collaborating with T-rock from Three 6 Mafia fame.
What is your inspiration?
Indo G, T-rock, Notorious BIG, No Limit, Cash Money, 2pac, Outkast, Goodie Mob, Souljah Slim, Slaughterhouse, Big L, and Mase.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
Yes, most definitely anyone can be successful in today’s world. You just got to become more of a mogul and branch out into different lanes and bring more than music to the table.
