“I feel like as a woman you have to set boundaries and let others know from the beginning what you’re there for and what you’re not looking for.”
Check out the interview with Tiffane Love exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Tiffane Love: One day I just created a music account on Soundclick and went from there. I received so much love which really helped me feel good about the music I was putting out. From Soundclick I went to Myspace and my buzz grew even bigger.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I use Facebook, Reverbnation, Soundcloud, Twitter, Instagram, etc. I send out emails to my subscribers and I post music links on my page for all to see.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
Being a female rap artist I feel like we aren’t taken serious. And then we have to deal with people being attracted to us in the middle of trying to complete a business deal. I feel like as a woman you have to set boundaries and let others know from the beginning what you’re there for and what you’re not looking for.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene out here has grown a lot. This is a small town so not much goes on here, but it has grown a lot when it comes to bringing artists here to perform. One of the main venues that has grown a lot in hosting events is Str8 Shooters.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I am hoping that music can continue to be used as an outlet to bring people together because currently in America there is a lot of separation which has a lot to do with race, religion, skin color, etc. If we can use the field of entertainment to spread the message of wake up and realize what’s going on in America then we must do so.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Keep striving and don’t give up even if it feels like no one believes in you. Believe in yourself. Create your music, get it out there to be heard and seen, and be joyous of the results you bring back. It’s not easy, but keep striving.
What inspires you to write your next song?
How I am currently feeling or what has been going on around me. Sometimes the beat alone inspires me to reach deep within to come up with a new song.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I listen to the beat, create a hook, then the verses are based upon the hook and the title of the song. I replay the song over and over before releasing it. I can be a perfectionist.
What do you think makes a great song?
Something that people can relate too, something that makes people want to dance and have fun. Something that makes people sit and think and question life and themselves. If the beat is knocking and the lyrics and the voice all ride the wave of the beat correctly I am in love.
