“Be yourself, do what you want to do, and just relax, everything works out in the end!”

Check out the interview with Soopahstar exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

SKILLY: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Soopahstar: When I was 14, I started writing songs, and fell in love with that, like I wrote over 170 songs, in less than 2 years haha…When it was time to pick a college, I decided to go to a music school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, called IPR, to learn how to produce and engineer music. While there, I learned Audio Engineering and Production and how to rap and started writing rap lyrics, instead of corny little pop songs haha. After a year and a half of school, I came back home to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and began making my own music since.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Be yourself, do what you want to do, and just relax, everything works out in the end!

What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
I would say, trying to find a different sound than what people are used to, and getting people accustomed to the new sound haha.

We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
The word of mouth, or the word of social media today, people aren’t going to give something a chance, unless their friends or other people they “follow”, like it, and tell them to listen to it.

Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
Colorado Springs is a dope place, the energy of the place is extremely positive. There is a budding talent scene in the springs, however, I feel like too many people are trying to ride the same wave, instead of finding their own lane. The fans are incredible, once you get their support, they’ll never stop supporting haha

Where do you see yourself a year from today?
A year from today, I see a better person, rapper, engineer, producer…just better overall, I just really want to keep improving, as a human.

Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
Jon Bellion, Logic, Drake, Kanye, my parents, my sisters, The Beatles, Eminem, and Steve Jobs A lot of people have inspired me tho, there’s always been someone or something in almost every aspect in life, that has inspired me.

How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
I like some of today’s music, the music that has a meaning and I can listen to their lyrics, and they’re actually saying something. That’s what I enjoy.
