“In order not be just a fan and actually do something about it, it started for me with the open mic scene.”
Check out the interview with Seen AKA exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Seen AKA: I have always loved music, but everyone loves music. In order not be just a fan and actually do something about it, it started for me with the open mic scene. That led me to putting on my own shows and then a lot more hosting as well as promoting.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Stay true to the music, but social media and the internet in general have no limits to its reach.
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
A combination of a teacher and a leader by example.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Time. You have family, business, and music business; you have to find the balance.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
It is like the bottom of the north and top of the south and all that entails.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
If they are just doing it for the money the journey is going to be longer and harder. If you do not have a passion for the actual music and that is not where it starts for you, then you are setting yourself for a long hard journey.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
A not guilty verdict and an excellent support system.
What is your inspiration?
Life, everything I see and go through.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
No, not just anyone and everyone. It is hard to be successful when you are putting out something that people do not want. I would not say fit in to get in, but if you do not make the type of music people want; they won’t listen.
