“This industry is full of sharks and the underground is sardines. If you lose faith and motivation you will be eaten up and forgotten about.”

Check out the interview with New Mula exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
New Mula:
I began promoting one of my best friend’s from high school. In January of this year he told me he was going to take a break from the music. Thankfully I know how to improvise and I moved on to another group of rappers. Then I woke up one day, thought to myself I might as well try to make my own label/entertainment company. New Mula was then born and I have some major attention going on.

What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
The start is to make your own website. I myself offer web design for very affordable prices. That is the first step for any artist! Soundcloud is a great tool to get your music to listeners. YouTube is a great tool as well. Social media wise, for promotion of you music, the best one to use is Twitter. Instagram is great for videos as well.

What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
I want to make New Mula the biggest thing in the music industry. My goal is to be the #1 entertainment company/label in history. I plan to branch off to many other things. I want to bring underground artists to the top with me.

What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
The hardest thing I have found in this music business is to have patience. You have to have patience and never lose your ambition. This industry is full of sharks and the underground is sardines. If you lose faith and motivation you will be eaten up and forgotten about.

What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
Currently I live in Dayton, Ohio. I don’t go outside very often so I really don’t know what the music scene is like. All I do is grind at home all day every day. This music is my life and passion!

What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Make a website using a professional or by yourself if you have some experience doing it. Even if you don’t have experience doing it learn how to do it. Never stop learning. Never stop grinding. If music is what you love then make it your passion!

What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
The best thing I would have to say is the first time the artist Drake tagged me in a post Facebook.

What is your inspiration?
My inspiration are Eminem, Lil Wayne, all of Young Money, Tupac, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chains, Kevin Gates, Snoop Dogg, Lil Dicky, Juicy J, and the rest of Taylor Gang.

Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
Yes I do, successful is a very broad term. There are many different interpretations of it. Lil Wayne taught me one of the best things to being successful was to always grind and be smart. 2 Chainz taught me that if you’re good at something make that your passion and you will be successful.
