“Don’t do it for any other reason, and if singing is what you love to do, go hard for it, never give up.”
Check out the interview with Nanna exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
SKILLY: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Nanna: I started off performing in school. I used to sing at my talent shows in middle school, then I got accepted into a performing arts high school for musical theater. I graduated and continue to sing. I sing in open bars all over NY, casinos and weddings. I was also given a chance to sing in front of Kelly Rowland for her TV show called chasing destiny that was on BET.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
My biggest advice to young kids is to make sure you love what you do before you do it, don’t do it for any other reason, and if singing is what you love to do go hard for it. Never give up.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
My hardest challenges would be me and my thoughts. A lot of the time I overthink and it’s one thing to say you wanna do something and another to actually do it and I have to push myself every day and be consistent which is really hard to do when you over think.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
The best way to promote yourself is through social media, everybody is on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and etc. I think the smartest thing to do would be to use it as a way to promote yourself.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
I’m from Brooklyn NY. The artists here are dope and creative. From singing at bars I seen a lot of people with amazing voices and a nice pen game. The fans here are great too but I believe NY people aren’t the easiest people to win over.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
A year from today I see myself still singing and making music as a better writer, performer, and vocalist.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
My biggest inspiration is Michael Jackson, Usher and Beyonce. I love to perform on stage and I grew up watching them on stage, so it inspired me so much. I look up to Beyonce and she’s where I wanna be.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
I think there’s many dope music out there today. We got Bruno Mars, Travis Scott, and Rihanna. Their music are killing the game right now. A lot of inspiration, I love it!
