“My friends and family. Watching them succeed in life inspires me to keep pushing for my dreams. It also helps that they’re there for me every step of the way.”
Check out the interview with Mista Murda Mitten exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Mista Murda Mitten: Music has always been a huge part of me ever since I was young. I enjoy listening to everything and hearing the creative work from other artists. I really enjoy hip hop music because of the rhyming meter and the wordplay. That is the reason why I started rapping. I enjoy rhyming as many words as I can and put it in a creative way so it all flows well.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
The best way to start is to build your fan base? I always give away my music for free and ask for feedback. I think interacting with your fans is the best exposure you can get.
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
I would love to inspire people and be the reason why they are following their dreams.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Trying to get your music out to listeners is probably the hardest thing. You never know what is going through their heads. Do they love it or hate it or the biggest thing is are they even going to listen to it.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
I actually live in a small country town. Everyone here is always listening to country music. I’m really not into country that much, but I do love the music. It’s big here and people will listen to anything. I love living here because it’s nice and quiet.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Just be yourself. Don’t do what everyone else is doing. Always bring your own style to the table. Being you will get you pretty far.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
I would have to say when random people just come up to you and say your music is awesome. It makes me feel excited that people are enjoying my music.
What is your inspiration?
My friends and family. Watching them succeed in life inspires me to keep pushing for my dreams. It also helps that they’re there for me every step of the way.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
If they follow their hearts and keep pushing, I believe they can.
