While fans await his next move in boxing, Manny Pacquiao announced Monday (Sept. 5) plans to run for a post in the Philippine Senate.
Pacquiao says he will run as a candidate for the 24-seat upper chamber in May 2016. “Yes, I’m going to run for (a) Senate post this coming 2016 election. But as to which party, that’s still to be determined,” he said.
Pacquiao, 36, used his fame as a boxer to get elected as congressman of an impoverished district in the southern Philippines in 2010.
In boxing, he’s currently recovering from a torn rotator cuff, which will sideline him until sometime next year.
Pacquiao has since that he’ll fight once more, before retiring from the sport.
