Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Madison Jay: I started in the entertainment business around the age of 13 through lifelong friends who were coming together starting a rap group and happen to be included within the group.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I use merchandise feverishly to get more fans. Things like buttons, pins, koozies, bottle openers, stickers, etc are critical in me promoting my brand.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The greatest challenge is mainly capital, but still that’s something that with the right plan and drive can be obtained.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene is active and I always keep my pulse on what’s hot and what’s not. What I don’t like doesn’t matter though.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
The future of music is more growth and the rise of other sub-genres.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
My advice to artists is to focus solely on your craft and what you bring to the table. Establish your brand early and create plans to execute daily.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Life is my greatest inspiration.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I’ll either choose a beat or write to it or I’ll listen to a beat and can match up lyrics or subject matter to fit that particular beat.
What do you think makes a great song?
Fans determine if a song is great because they’re who we mostly make the music for in my opinion.
