“You have to always be up to date with what’s new and in style.”

Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
I started having a passion for music at a very young age. I remember when I was 4 years old pretending the fireplace was a stage and doing karaoke for my family. The attention I got from using a microphone to show my voice made me fall in love with performing and the arts. Ever since then I’ve just gotten better and better and received more and more attention for the records I put out. I am currently the President of Live Forever Ent., my own record label.

What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
I would say the best way to promote yourself as an artist is to always be networking. When people see that you eat, sleep, and s**t music they tend to want to follow you. Of course, you want to constantly be uploading music to Soundcloud or whatever music platform you prefer but you still have to uphold an image every time you go out.

What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
I would like for my independent label to be a contender for major record labels. Just to show people that you can do all of this by yourself when you put your mind to it, and getting a record deal is old news. Why sign to someone and give them some crazy percentage of your profits when you can pocket all that yourself? It makes no sense anymore.

What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
The hardest thing about being in the music business, in my opinion, is the come up. Getting noticed as an artist with all these different artists coming out these days is pretty difficult. You have to always be up to date with what’s new and in style.

What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
Atlanta. The whole world knows about the music scene in my city. I love this place. I don’t feel like I have to say too much on this one.

What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Don’t ever give up. No matter what anyone says. Try to do everything by yourself. Study your favorite artists and how they came up. Be observant. Take what you learn and do it your own way. Last but not least, be you.

What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
Waking up to sing another day. Being able to do this as a full time job is the best thing that’s ever happened in my life. Without music, I’d be dead. So being able to wake up and make more music is the best thing ever.

What is your inspiration?
I’m inspired by the small things. I have always been into bettering myself, not only as an artist but a person as well. I also am inspired by my fans of course. I want to be the reason someone gets the chills when they put on my music. I feel like that’s what is missing these days. I don’t get the chills when I listen to music, anymore.

Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
I do believe that anyone can be successful if they truly want what they’re after. No days off. Wake up and ask yourself, what can I do to better my career today? Then do it. Don’t make excuses or blame someone else for your mishaps. Just do what you have to do to make your dreams come true.
