“I don’t like that people who know you, your talents, and what you do won’t support your movement but will support a major artist who will always overlook them.”

Check out the interview with Konrad Costa exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Konrad Costa: I started my journey into the entertainment business by beat boxing at a very young age. When I was 13, in 2006, I was introduced to two great music programs at the time which helped me bring my sounds to life. This all started with me having a natural gift and believing in myself and my dream.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I do a lot of self-promotion and I use social media a lot as well to interact with fans. I also get promotional packages from a good friend of mine in the industry with many credentials.

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The challenges I face in today’s entertainment industry is finding my own way, creating my own sound as well as my own path. I don’t follow trends when I can create them. That’s how I overcome those challenges. I’m not trying to sound like anyone else or even make the trending kind of music that many major artists are doing today.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene where I’m from is pretty much dry and the locals don’t like to support any local artists. I don’t like that people who know you, your talents, and what you do won’t support your movement but will support a major artist who will always overlook them.

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I think the future of music could actually turn back into music with meaning, feelings, and emotions. Artists can be more a part of it by actually trying to be more creative and not follow a trend that won’t last long.

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
I can tell them to keep believing and keep fighting for what you want. Be yourself, don’t try to be like anyone else, and don’t try to be something you’re not. Always be creative in as many ways as possible. Take everything to a level beyond average.

What inspires you to write your next song?
Real life events and what I go through on a daily basis as well as how I’m feeling. I let it flow naturally because I’m a self-taught, multi-talented artist.

What are the steps you take to make a song?
I first consider how I’m feeling at the moment. Then I’ll start going through my beats or I make a new one that takes me to that realm where I zone out and let it flow.

What do you think makes a great song?
I honestly think good lyrics, a good beat, a good hook, good delivery, and to top it off emotions. People want to hear your pain and feel how you felt during the creative process.
