“Let them sleep on you because once you come with that heat everyone is going to be on you.”
Check out the interview with Kelo exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Kelo: I was young when I got into music. My mother had me dancing every morning before school, that was my workout motivation and woke me up. Ever since then I have been listening to all types of music. I first started doing music at the age of 12. I want to tell my story, I want to tell you guys what I have been through because some of you can relate. I’m not doing it for the fame nor the money, I am doing it for my 3 beautiful children.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Don’t give up. Stay positive and put God first. Times may get hard but somebody is always going through something worse than you. It never hurts to get advice from people. Keeping it in doesn’t get you nowhere. Like my pop told me, closed mouths don’t get fed. If you want something put your mind to it and accomplish it.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
I’m 19 years of age with 3 kids. It’s a challenge, but they’re my motivation to keep going in life and pushing me to be a better father than my own and getting out the streets.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
The best way to advertise your music is to post it on all social media and tag all your friends; let them know to like, comment, and share. If you got the talent they will share it.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
Fort Wayne? Everyone here wants to be somebody who they aren’t. It’s bad where I’m at, nobody ever wants to stick together to help one another. Instead of hating on the next person, use them for motivation to be better than them. It doesn’t always gotta be robbing, killing, and plotting on people.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
To be honest, I don’t even know. I guess I can say whatever God has planned for me. I will have to wait to see. I don’t predict the future because anything can happen between now and then.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
I was inspired by 2Pac, NWA, Michael Jackson, Brain Mckinight, Gucci Mane, and Lil Wayne to name a few. Growing up I wanted to be just like them. I wanted to tell my story. I look up to a few of these guys because I have been through what they have been through in some situations. They’re the reason why I’m doing music other than my kids.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
The music coming out today is cool. I love music and enjoy listening to new stuff. Tells me what I have to do to get better and motivates me to work on my music nonstop and move in silence. Let them sleep on you because once you come with that heat everyone is going to be on you.
