“Getting your foot in the door. It’s very difficult to establish your brand and internet presence with insufficient funds. If you believe in yourself, you need to invest in your brand.”
Check out the interview with Jor-G exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Jor-G: It began in prison. I was bored one day and decided to see if I could put together some rhymes. When I came out to the yard to spit it everyone was in shock! I decided to take it serious from there on out. Once I got out the grind began.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Word of mouth. Be different and invest!
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
An example of how you can come from nothing and be successful in this world.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Getting your foot in the door. It’s very difficult to establish your brand and internet presence with insufficient funds. If you believe in yourself, you need to invest in your brand.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
Living in Miami’s the best; however, the music scene’s over-crowded with every artist fending for themselves. There’s no unity, just competition. Everybody wants to come up first.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Quality over quantity. Believe in yourself and establish your brand.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
I’ve been lucky enough to go on tour across the country, open up for some of my favorite artists, and even perform in some of the biggest festivals in hip hop. I think the best thing that has ever happened was when I released the music video for my single “Score” and it generated over 25k views in the first 24 hours.
What is your inspiration?
My kids. My main goal’s to show them that if you have a dream and goal, with hard work and dedication, anything’s possible.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
Hell yeah, most definitely.
