“First understand what your definition of success is. Work hard and don’t let negativity stop you from your success. Be willing to sacrifice to get your success. Have a plan and stick by it.”

Check out the interview with J Tizzle exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
J Tizzle: I was able to start my journey by believing in myself and my talents. I started producing in 2004 and over the years I compiled a variety of music. This led me to present my music to the world.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I like to network with other artists and businesses. Collabs with other artists or producers has helped. A free track won’t hurt either.

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The competition is a great challenge, but I stay focused on what I’m doing and staying original. Competition keeps me motivated.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
My hometown music scene is on the rise. I like that more artists are being recognized for their talents. I would like to see more artists support artists.

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I think music is heading in a good direction. Music is one of the keys to a bright future. Artists can gain more control of their music today. More control now dictates a vast musical planet.

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
First understand what your definition of success is. Work hard and don’t let negativity stop you from your success. Be willing to sacrifice to get your success. Have a plan and stick by it.

What inspires you to write your next song?
My mood and my feelings at that time play a big part in what inspires me to produce my next song.

What are the steps you take to make a song?
I don’t have many steps when I make a song. Since I’m a producer I like to start from scratch. A simple beat or melody to begin. I build from that. I really don’t have a certain direction when I start. I like to let my creative side take over. Not too many steps works for me.

What do you think makes a great song?
When you put your heart and soul into a song. Good substance as well makes a great song. I try to use those ingredients in my music.
