“I think the future of music is going downhill because everyone talks about the same things. I hope to bring a new light to real music. Artists can become more a part of it by talking about what is real, and topics that others are scared to address…”

Check out the interview with AntGotBarz exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
AntGotBarz: What started my journey into this business was watching Kanye West and Eminem. I saw how the crowd interacted with them. They made me want the same interaction.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I perform live, and I promote myself at the performance. I also get DJ’s everywhere to spin my music.

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The greatest challenge I face to getting people’s attention is not overdoing it. I overcome this by making my cover art distinctive and different at such a point that’ll make people want to listen to my music.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
It’s a mixture of South-side and West-side drill and trap music, conscious rap, and bopping music. I don’t like how the music glorifies gun violence.

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I think the future of music is going downhill because everyone talks about the same things. I hope to bring a new light to real music. Artists can become more a part of it by talking about what is real, and topics that others are scared to address.

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Be yourselves, talk about what’s real to you, show your hearts, and show everyone why people should listen to your music.

What inspires you to write your next song?
I’m inspired to make a song better than my last song. I inspire others to follow their own paths, and to become a better musician. That is what inspires me to rite my next song.

What are the steps you take to make a song?
The first step I take in the process of making a song is feeling the beat. Then I think about what I’m about to write. After that everything just falls into place; the lyrics, the flow, the concept. Everything!

What do you think makes a great song?
It depends on the sub genre. If it’s conscious rap then it the flow, lyrics, and the meaning behind it. If it’s something else then it’s the beat and flow. It’s as simple as that for a hit.
