“Success is a word. How can you get it if you can’t even see it?”
Check out the interview with Hemanifezt exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Hemanifezt: The vision started in Compton, California as a youth. When I lived in Gardena, California that’s where the magic started. I started performing at shows. Since I was born I knew I could do this, so I moved Arkansas and started recording at the studio and at home.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I use all social media, book shows, and pass out CDs. I let DJs and producers download my acapella on a site called Looperman where musician do remixes of my vocals.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
By being true to myself and my culture by knowing I’m making history right now as we speak, being humble for my future.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
I really don’t look at another artist’s music. I’m more global minded, so I don’t judge nobody. I wish them blessings just like I receive.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
More global. The music you hear in present might not be future music. I write for the future, so I’m there already.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Look to the future where you want to be. Success is a word. How can you get it if you can’t even see it? If you don’t see it no one else will.
What inspires you to write your next song?
Everyday people or topics. Everything is a song, you just got to put it together. Life is inspiring.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
Sometime it starts with beat. Sometimes I do like the Great Saint Guru from Gangstarr, I write the titles of songs and build a song from there. If the beat has a good beat title that might make an album or song. God gives you signs all the time.
What do you think makes a great song?
I let people judge that. I’m just writing. What’s good to me might not be great to others.
