“My goal is to sing all around the world. I like sharing my gift of music. I have a message and would like to share that with the world.”
Check out the interview with Frederick Dare exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Frederick Dare: I began singing when I was five years old in a church in Hampton, Virginia. I’ve sung at numerous churches, weddings, and concerts.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
The best way to promote yourself is to do local concerts, utilize all the various social media websites, YouTube, and to present my most recent work. I have utilized numerous local magazines, marketing companies, and CD Baby.
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
My goal is to sing all around the world. I like sharing my gift of music. I have a message and would like to share that with the world.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
The hardest thing is getting the music heard. It is easier said than done. But anything that you want you have to work hard for.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
I currently live in Atlanta and it has a nice music scene. In every city you have to make sure that you are not caught up in a money making music scheme but engaged in a real talent performance arena.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
I would recommend that you work on your craft and do it from your heart. Just sing, rap, do poetry, or whatever talent you have from your heart and everything else will follow.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
I am so glad for social media because it does allow you to establish a fan base. You share your music all over the world with a click. You realize people really love your music and wait for new music from you. It is a great feeling.
What is your inspiration?
My inspiration is the love for music and how writing lets me escape from negative situations.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
I believe with hard work and dedication one can be successful in the world. Just remain true to yourself. Never try to sound like someone else. They already exist.
