“Surround yourself with people who put you in a position to succeed.”
Check out the interview with FMG Mack exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
FMG Mack: I began recording my music a year ago after being released from a three year prison sentence.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Stay committed. Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself. Surround yourself with people who put you in a position to succeed.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
The hardest thing is the promotion of my music and trying to have my music heard nationally, not just locally.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
The best way to promote music these days is through social media networking and old fashioned leg work to get your music heard.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
I’m from Springfield, Massachusetts. There are so many talented artists here and the fan support is actually very strong in the underground scene.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
If I continue to hustle in the music industry in a year I believe I will be touring nationally.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
My biggest inspiration in music is definitely my older brother who got me to start recording myself when I first came home from prison.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
A lot of the music being played on the radio today lacks originality and lyrical versatility.
