“The fans are great but to me the fans are more like friends, like I said I interact with them personally and not just as an artist to fan.”
Check out the interview with Erko Bandz exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Erko Bandz: I’ve always been drawn to entertainment. It’s not that I idolize an icon or public figure, I have just always felt like my purpose in life was just beyond being average.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Block out the noise of anyone telling you that you can’t do what you love. Focus your energy on you and who you allow around you. A wise man once said if you hang around 9 broke people you’re bound to be number 10. In other words if you sing surround yourself with singers or if you are a lawyer surround yourself with lawyers. Lastly, be active on social media, locally, and network. Networking is a huge reason I was able to expand.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
There are a lot of trials and errors with the process but, as long as you trust your process and take the advice of others all the challenges will pass.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
Being live at shows and also being active with all my followers on social media.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
As far as Portmore, Jamaica I haven’t kept up with the news. As for where I am now in New Jersey, I love it. I live alright now but it could always be better. There are so many artist where I’m from in the Morris County area. It’s like a pool of untapped talent. The fans are great but to me the fans are more like friends, like I said I interact with them personally and not just as an artist to fan.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
I’d like to expand a year from now and I’d like to be touring, on the radio and working with artist in the industries top platforms.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
My biggest inspiration right now is, my son, parents, siblings, my girl, my team and my older brother who passed. It actually wasn’t until him that I started liking music. But as far as who I look up to in today’s world? I mean like I said I don’t idolize but I respect everyone’s hustle in the game right now from your Trippie Redd, Yatchy and Uzi to your Kendrick, Cole and Dave East. As far as musical legends go I would like to someday be like a Bob Marley or be like a Jimi Hendrix possibly even the Michael Jackson of my time. Basically when it’s all said and done I want the world to know I was here.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
I love how creative music is now. I mean a lot of it means nothing but as far as sound goes it’s all so beautiful. I approve all types of music.
Thanks! Where can we contact you and find you online?
