Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Corey Preston:
It all started for me when I was a young boy. I used to sing in the church choir and it wasn’t long until I wanted to sing solo. I’ve been writing my own music since I was 11. I would have to say the musical journey really started when I was 15 and went to a studio for the first time.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
My advice for young kids out there is if you really want to take your music to the next level, keep a positive mindset because adversity will come. Consistency is key and go with your gut, don’t listen to others.

What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
The hardest challenge is maintain relationships with homies or the ladies. While being focused I’ve had to cut a lot of BS out of my life. Maybe being able to recognize the genuineness in those who are trying to build opportunity for your foundation.

We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
I’m a people person so it isn’t hard for me to be honest to be heard. If you’re a laid back, charismatic, goofy type like me it’s cake. To be specific, make sure to stay up on your social media; perception is everything being an artist.

Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
I currently reside in Tampa, Florida. My city is tough, artists don’t want to work with other artists because of insecurities. You got to have the juice for buzz because people support, but not like you’d hope at times. I feel you got to keep hustling because once you take over you got your whole city’s respect.

Where do you see yourself a year from today?
A year from now I see myself becoming a household name or having a way bigger buzz than I do now. Hope I can go on someone’s tour and be opening and getting more exposure.

Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
I have a few big inspirations, one being my mom because she sings and inspired me as a child. Michael Jackson of course because he’s the G.O.A.T. Stevie Wonder because he’s a great composer and writer along with being the G.O.A.T. too. Chris Brown inspired me truly to pursue music as a career.

How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
The music today is okay, there is still great music that comes out but I feel today is over saturated with no brainer music.
