“The future of music is definitely going to be molded into the hands of those who are continually reinventing the music style …”
Check out the interview with C.E.O. FRESH exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
C.E.O. FRESH: Since I started rapping in the year 2000 and I took a break to reinvent my style for a couple of years while dealing with more struggle in the street life. This turned my pain into relentless ambition and my hunger to leave the street life changed me from regular talent into a person with a voice. My aggressiveness and aggression is nothing to be reckoned with.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I promote through Facebook, Instagram, Reverbnation, and Indi.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The greatest challenge in the music industry today is making sure the diversified rap style I have is not mistaken for violence or aggression but a prolific musical sound of expression. I notice fans love catchy voices like Young Thug. It is time for a change. A voice like Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali will empowers you.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene in Memphis, Tennessee is like a graveyard with surprises. You can get stuck here because your music can be heard but not elevated because in my city we don’t have the unity or vision to push forth and become a mighty Atlanta for the world.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
The future of music is definitely going to be notorious into the hands of those who are continually reinventing the music style to appease the ears of rap fans. Artists can’t participate by focusing on their own craft and not following trends of other leading artists such as Future and Kendrick Lamar.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Push yourself to new limits. The independent platforms are allowing more doors to open for artists to be heard without the control of record labels. It just takes more time, but it is worth it as you pay attention to groups like the Migos and 1017.
What inspires you to write your next song?
My next song is inspired by the things and obstacles life brings to me which can be another artist’s motivation. Also, my undying uncanny ability to forecast visions from the future and into the present making me unstoppable.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I create music with motivational trend-setting and aggressive lyrics that no one else can create.
What do you think makes a great song?
A great song is one that can touch the hearts of the whole world and make people forget their judgmental opinions about rap music.
