“Consistency/Persistence is everything. Perception is life. Laws of attraction are real! Synchronicity/Quantum physics and alchemy.”
Check out the interview with Bug-Z exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
SKILLY: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Bug-Z: I started writing music as a youth in a group home. I was punished by being forced to sit in the hallway with nothing but a pencil and paper from waking up until bed time. It was like solitary for kids. I wrote a bunch of lyrics inspired by Slim Shady LP, Eminem’s 1st major debut album. Before then, my mother worked in nightclubs. She would take me to work with her where the DJs would give me custom mixtape cassettes. I would study and learn everywhere and perform for my mother’s grown-up adult friends. I knew every word and always impressed them. The snowball effect picked up over the years. I went from recording in my bedroom/garage to the Hit Factory in Miami.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Blogs/ VLOGs/ Social Media
Be relentless without getting Shadow Banned (IG)
Facebook boosted posts, I’ve invested 17k alone
Worldstar Hip Hop, I have 14 video posts = 10k +
Magnets/ Stickers/ Car Flags/ Business Cards & Merch
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
A pioneer of Hip Hop animation. Also a leader of the “Green Rush”. I want to be a success story, not a failure. I want to be a nation wide act, touring and etc. And I want to be an independent hip-hop mogul entrepreneur.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Politics. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Business partners are playing both sides of the fence, not mixing business with pleasure, haters! And being an OCD freak (aka) perfection. Lastly, advertising/promotion and marketing budget.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
I recently moved home to Tampa, FL. Florida is really buzzing in the Hip Hop industry. It’s a very ideal place to be in the Music Game today. But if I could choose, id relocate to Miami Dade (aka) 305.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Don’t burn any bridges that you’ll have to cross, but if you do, detonate them with TNT! Stay humble and don’t get black balled. Don’t give up! Consistency/Persistence is everything. Perception is life. Laws of attraction are real! Synchronicity/Quantum physics and alchemy.
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
I got to travel to Capitol Records in Hollywood and set up large marijuana business deal for a popular Taylor Gang artist. Also working with RGF Productions “Fetty Wap” and having them love my music (Fans)
Nothing better than having people you look up to and admire like your music (Creek BoyZ “With My Team)
What is your inspiration?
My mom, uncle and father have all went to prisons. Me and my grandmother are the only non-felons in my family. My inspiration / motivation is failure of my family and needing to take care and provide for them and myself as we age and get older. Circle of life.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
No. You need TALENT! But more importantly, you need constant and consistently relentless marketing, advertising, and financial backing to reach such masses. It is a number game. Money as ruled this industry since day 1. Money makes the world go around!
