“It’s not about what I think or what another person feels. Just be the best you can be. Upcoming talent should ALWAYS do their homework, and once you see some success, continue to do your homework. Sharpen your gift and continue to strive for something greater…”
Check out the interview with Brandon Trevon exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Brandon: My journey started as me singing and performing as a child. I’ve always knew I would pursue in music and entertainment, but I decided to fully take music seriously in 2009 when I began networking with different producers and engineers. I’ve been building ever since.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I am always thinking of ways to market my promotion, whether it’s figuring out the different demographics of my supporters to creating different incentives to pull my supporters in. I respect the art of marketing and being able to come up different strategies to catch people’s attention, and at the same time gaining their interest to my music.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
There are many challenges when it comes to entertainment, but I’d say for me it’s about becoming better and allowing myself not to be so complacent. So a challenge for me is continuing to challenge myself to greater heights. The sky is never the limit.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene in Minneapolis I’d say is steady. There are some incredibly talented artists that have come out of Minneapolis, MN and there are a boat load of gifted upcoming artist from there as well. I believe the mindset can be challenged a little more. I am saying that with the amount of talent Minneapolis has to offer, it’ll be something special if the bar would be set higher and the expectation could meet that. I see a lot of artists that are content and they want a shot, yet their business is not in order. Their reasoning is not legit and/or their lives are not congruent to the “SOCIAL MEDIA” characters they vicariously live through. Minneapolis has a lot of potential, but if the artist want to further, that potential isn’t enough. With that said, I love Minneapolis!
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
Music constantly changes with time and I think people do great things as the times change. I’ve said it before, that in the present time we live in a “TURN UP” era, but I believe as the music evolves people are going to want music of feeling, passion, and soul wrenching again. Music of substance will definitely make it’s way back and I believe the artists that make timeless music will last for a lifetime.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
I would say, do whatever you feel is necessary for you to succeed. It’s not about what I think or what another person feels. Just be the best you can be. Upcoming talent should ALWAYS do their homework, and once you see some success, continue to do your homework. Sharpen your gift and continue to strive for something greater.
What inspires you to write your next song?
It just happens. What I mean by that is that I do not have a certain way that I write, or I require a lot. I am inspired everyday because there is something going around me that I can take from. Ideas come to me randomly, or melodies suddenly pop into my head and I go from there.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I write everything down or sing it in my voice notes. I’d then format it into verse, hooks, bridge. This is a process but it’s become simple to me. I write from feeling same as I do with singing.
Where can we connect with you? Can you give us your social media links and where we can contact you?
Yes, feel free to follow me Instagram, Twitter, SoundCloud and like my Facebook fan page. I would love to connect with you all and give you updates on what’s going on with me. Photo shoots, performances, album updates, singing videos, etc. You name it stop by and get to your boy.
