“I’d love to become a music mogul. Sign artists like myself to my label and create a creative lane for artists to expose their unique talent! I also want to become a hit songwriter which is my strongest factor in being an artist.”
Check out the interview with Bozz Lay’dee exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
Bozz Lay’dee: It all started when I was about 9 years old. My grandmother at the time was babysitting my brother and I when our parents worked night shifts. She worked at a lounge/club at the time where we would watch her perform with live bands. She took me to work with her one night, she performed and she pulled me on stage to dance to the music because I was known as a good dancer.
What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
The best way to promote yourself as an artist is to hustle. Sell CDs and utilize every social media possible.
What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
To me it’s bigger than music! I’d love to become a music mogul. Sign artists like myself to my label and create a creative lane for artists to expose their unique talent! I also want to become a hit songwriter which is my strongest factor in being an artist.
What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
The hardest thing is competing in a world where everybody wants to be in the music industry. It’s extremely hard for a female artist these days. Also getting folks to listen to your music and support your movement because they’re only exposed to who they hear on the radio.
What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
I’m originally from Chicago, IL but now reside in San Antonio, TX. I’ll speak on where I currently reside. The music scene’s limited. I respect a lot of artists here, you have to strive to carve your name in the music scene. You really never heard of any major artists out of San Antonio and I plan to change that.
What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Don’t ever give up on your dreams. Believe in yourself first before you want anyone else to! Work hard and grind hard if you want people to take you seriously!
What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
The best thing that ever happened to me was opening up for artists that I respect and grew up listening to. Also realizing I also had fans of all ages and different cultures.
What is your inspiration?
My inspiration’s doing what God created me to do. Secondly my family.
Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
Yes, I do feel anyone can be successful if you work hard and not depend on anyone to do it for you no matter what!
Where can we find you on social media?
