“A conscious rapper who can relay a positive message in my community, make substantial money, and get into acting.”

Check out the interview with BIG UN exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
BIG UN:
I’ve been rapping and playing music since the 80’s in the parks growing up in the projects.

What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
Sell and give out as many free CDs as possible in the local streets and invest in internet music sites like Worldstar. Promote on YouTube and Facebook as much as possible.

What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
A conscious rapper who can relay a positive message in my community, make substantial money, and get into acting.

What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Getting connected to a major record label.

What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
Very crowded and over saturated with rap artists and competition. There’s a lot of violent and gangster rap music. It’s a big city that never sleeps and always has something to do and plenty money to make.

What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Keep making good music, follow your goals, never give up, and invest money into yourself and your music.

What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
My latest song called “Pull Your Pants Up” got over ten thousand views and 40 people shared my video, as opposed to all my other videos only receiving about 2,000 views and no shares.

What is your inspiration?
Make some money to take care my family and have a large fan base listening and enjoying my music.

Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
Yes I truly believe so. There’s a lot of unique styles out there that attract people of all genres.
