“But there is nothing like performing for a group of people and letting them experience your emotions.”
Check out the interview with Beat Author exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Beat Author: Melanie always loved singing and was in an acapella group in High School where she got to write and sing her own songs. Melanie performed at The Beyond Scholarship Fundraiser in Weehawken, NJ and we approached Melanie because we loved her voice. We asked her to work with us. Two weeks later we sent her the “Breathe” song and the rest is history.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
My best advice is that you need to be certain that you want to pursue a career in music. You must be extremely passionate and relentless to be in this industry. Start while your young, save your money, and invest in yourself.
What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Putting together the right elements to create “Breathe” was a difficult task. After we heard Melanie perform, we knew that was the sound for our next record. Within the next two and half weeks we put a team together to create the music for Melanie’s breathtaking voice. The writers, engineers, musicians, and singers came together to create this timeless record that we released to the world.
We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
The best way to promote and advertise your music is a face to face experience. Online is a great way to connect with people and get your music out to the world. But there is nothing like performing for a group of people and letting them experience your emotions. Those live moments are memorable, they aren’t just some post online that you can swipe past and disregard. Which is why we do our best to give those memorable moments such as our event on June 28th. You have the opportunity to experience Beat Author and Melanie Munoz live.
Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
We are all from Central New Jersey, we live in a very diverse community. There are a lot of different influences, so the artists in our area are very creative with how they represent themselves. The fans also appreciate different genres of music. You could have a fan that’s listening to hard rock one minute, then go to a hip hop show the next.
Where do you see yourself a year from today?
A year from now we would have released our album, be touring, and promoting our album.
Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
Some of my biggest inspirations as a record producer are Teddy Riley, Quincy Jones, and Pharrell.
How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
I love the music that’s coming out today. I feel with the easy access we have nowadays, it gives the opportunity to everyone that’s interested to make music. It’s a good and a bad thing as well; you sometimes have to go through a bunch of bad songs to get to the great songs. But there are some great artists and songs that are out.
