“Everyday someone comes up with something that could enhance the quality of music … Artists can be more a part of this is by contributing creatively.”
Check out the interview with Armanni T exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Armanni T: Since a young age music has always played a role in my life. From church choir, band in grade school to deciding that this is my next step. 3 years ago in Okinawa, Japan I heard my voice in a home studio and wanted to make it sound better. So I went to work.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I feel like a lot of the things I do are spare-of-the-moment. I’m more about connecting with people for real. I prefer to show my hand first. I use my portable speaker and walk around playing my music and interacting with people. Also organizing a Japanese-American all genre showcase in the form of a music festival; awesome outcome that helped.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
The biggest challenge for me would be my brain. I over think sometimes and it gets the best of me. Other than that, anything else around me I control. When it’s my perception it’s my environment, I control my environment. That means I don’t have to overcome anybody but myself.
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
I have a list of hometowns. Southern MD: Really about to be a problem watch out for that. Misawa, Japan: Slowly bubbling especially with the Japanese trap. Okinawa, Japan: A few dope artists that are really progressing out there. Boise, Idaho: So much untouched talent! Extremely dope artist, producers, engineers, and videographers.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
It can only get better. Creators are on their jobs now more than ever and at a young age. Everyday someone comes up with something that could enhance the quality of music like a new sound, new flow, new instrument, or presenting a new creative thought process to compose music. Artists can be more a part of this is by contributing creatively.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
I would say learn as much as you can about your craft and work relentlessly at it. Know what “your successful” is. Know your worth.
What inspires you to write your next song?
My last song.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
The beat will have to be first. A beat, if I really like it, puts me mentally in a location. That could be in the car by myself, in the club, 2 years ago, anywhere. Then I write.
What do you think makes a great song?
The truth with an undeniable melody.
