“I think the future of music is going in a positive direction. It’s cool to see different styles of rap and personality.”
Check out the interview with ADAMANT exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.
Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
ADAMANT: I began writing poetry and performing spoken word during high school. I transitioned to crafting hip hop lyrics over heartfelt melodies several years ago. I started taking my music seriously last year which was the first time I went to the recording studio. When I’m in the studio it feels like I’m in a different world.
What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I like to record myself freestyling poetry, creating videos of me dancing, being silly and rapping to my songs. I also like utilizing Facebook ads, quotes and sayings, logo visuals, and animations.
What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
My greatest challenge is locating more gig opportunities. I have been networking with other artists along with seeking gigs outside of my area
How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
In my hometown the music scene is amazing. There are so many talented artists crafting music with substance. I dislike that there is not much unity. It seems like the majority of the artists are treating it like a competition rather than an outlet to elevate one another.
Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I think the future of music is going in a positive direction. It’s cool to see different styles of rap and personality. I believe it’s healthy for the culture. I believe artists can be more a part of music by being themselves, uniting with one another, having a positive mindset, helping out in their communities, and elevating the youth.
What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
I encourage artists to be patient, study marketing, and branding along with setting concrete goals. I encourage artists to write down their goals and formulate a plan.
What inspires you to write your next song?
I constantly listen to soulful instrumentals that move me. Crafting music is like therapy to me. Whatever I’m going through I express that in a song.
What are the steps you take to make a song?
I usually write my songs in the morning with a cup of coffee nearby. When I discover an instrumental that moves me, I freestyle to the beat to determine if the beat fits my style. Once I get an understanding of how I’m going to approach the song I develop an outline. I begin writing the lyrics when a storyline is established.
What do you think makes a great song?
I believe the approach, the beat, the message along with originality is a recipe for a great song.
