“I’m a man of faith. Where one door closes, God opens another. Trust me I’ve had my share of disappointments. I just keep striving and making my way. Someone will notice me.”

Check out the interview with Adam Greenleaf exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Adam Greenleaf: I never saw myself as a songwriter. My love for music started in prison, it was a way for me to express myself. Songwriting was an outlet for me and writing music all started during my incarceration.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I’m new at this. I just got out of prison and I don’t know anyone in the music industry to help me get noticed. I’m not a singer or rapper, I’m a musically inclined songwriter with a unique way with words. In the past it was word of mouth, most of my fan base was built while in prison. People liked what I wrote and they passed it on to others.

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
My greatest challenge I find is getting noticed and having someone recognize your work and appreciating what you got to offer.

How I overcome these obstacles? I just keep my head up and keep trying. I’m a man of faith. Where one door closes, God opens another. Trust me, I’ve had my share of disappointments. I just keep striving and making my way. Someone will notice me.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
Wichita is small. I’ve met a lot of gifted artists that have great potential. They have a lot to offer and a story to tell. The artists here are different. We have our own unique style when it comes to music. The bad thing is we as writers and artists don’t have the recognition like the bigger cities.

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
Music plays a big part in our lives. It allows us to connect with one another. Look at the songs being played on the radio. It has changed our society in so many ways; some good, some bad. Music influences the minds of our youth. Today it allows us to dream to escape and change our world. Music is powerful. It makes us feel something deep inside; the lyrics speak to our souls.

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
The only advice I can give is to keep pushing. Success only comes to those who don’t give up and don’t settle for less.

What inspires you to write your next song?
Life, love, and God.

What are the steps you take to make a song?
I don’t have a formula. I just write. It’s the love and passion that I have for music that produces something great.

What do you think makes a great song?
Love, experience, honesty, passion, and a great story.
